Chicago Bears Assistant Coaches And Coordinators 2023

Chicago Bears assistant coaches include Justin Hinds, Noble Landry, Pierre Ngo, David Overstreet II, Carlos Polk, Luke Steckel, Omar Young, and Tim Zetts. 

The Bears filled in all the chairs of their staff in the 2022 offseason. There are lots of familiar faces on both the offensive and defensive sides. 

The defense consists of a loaded list of names that are close to Eberflus’ tenure while he was with the Indianapolis Colts. Hinds has been assigned the role of assisting in the defensive line. He is in his 12th season of coaching career and 2023 is his second year with the team. 

Similarly, Landry stands in his duty as an abet to strength and conditioning of the players and is also in the second year in the position for the Bears. 

Pierre brings in his experience of coaching college football and is currently serving his second stint as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. His first stint tenure for the team was from 2015 to 2020.

Likewise, Overstreet II is aiding the defensive back who is currently in the sixth year of NFL coaching. The 2023 season is his second year with the team. 

Head Coach

Chicago Bears head coach 2023 is Matt Eberflus. He was chosen for the post on 27 January 2022. Matt is the 17th individual to be chosen for the team.  

Eberflus brings in the mentoring experience of 30 years, 13 of which are in the NFL. He began his instructing career in Toledo involving various roles including guiding outside linebacker from 1994 to 1998, and defensive back from 1999 to 2000. He also gave his time from 1994 to 1995 in a recruiting coordinator role. 

After his tenure there, he left to join Missouri for eight seasons with various duties including associate head coach, defensive coordinator, defensive back and safeties mentor from 2001 to 2008. 

He served 17 years as a college football coach before entering the NFL. His debut in the League began with the Cleveland Browns where he filled in the role of linebacker instructor from 2009 to 2010.

Then, he spent seven seasons in the same role with the Cowboys from 2011 to 2017. 

Matt spent his 2018 season mentoring the Indianapolis Colts defense when the team was ranked 11th in the total defense, and eighth in the rush defense.

The Colts completed their regular season maintaining a 10-6 record and won the AFC wildcard round. Their defense finished seventh in the League in 2019 and was listed in the top 10 under various defensive categories. 

Eberflus took the 30th-ranked defense to the top 10 in terms of scoring and yards which was considered the immediate impact after his inheritance. Before coming into the coaching career, he was himself a linebacker at Toledo. 

Chicago Bears Head Coach Salary

The head coach of the Bears is currently paid $4.5 million annually. This is an average pay scale under the lower-end category ranging from $3.5-$5 million. 

The top primary mentors and instructors receive their salaries in the range of $9.5 million to $20 million yearly. At the current time, the Patriots head coach receives the highest annual payroll which is $20 million. 

The second highest-payer team is the Seattle Seahawks which pays around $15 million to their lead coaching individual. Similarly, the Steelers’ $12.5 million is the third highest pay scale. 

The Bears previously paid $7 million annually to Matt Nagy in the past. It was one of the largest amounts the team paid to their lead mentor in the franchise’s history. 

Chicago Bears Offensive Coordinator

Luke Getsy was named the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears in 2022. He is currently in his second season with the squad in an offensive guide role. 

His tutoring journey in American football began in 2007 when he served as a graduate assistant at the University of Akron. He was himself a college football player at the same university and went to play in the NFL for the San Fransisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent.

Getsy also filled the offensive graduate assistant role at the University of Pittsburgh in 2010. He served to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania fulfilling his duty as the quarterback coach and the OC from 2011 to 2011. Under his tenure. the Crimson Hawks were ranked #6 in Division II and 10th in rushing offense nationally.

In the 2013 season, he coached the wide receivers of Western Michigan including Corey Davis, who is the current WR for the Jets and was named Freshman of the Year back then. 

Coaching Career In The NFL

Luke made his debut in NFL coaching by associating with the Green Bay Packers in 2014 as a part of the offensive staff and led the team to end no. 1 in the fewest giveaways category. 

In 2016, he shifted to the role of instructing the receivers and led the team to be one of the two teams having three WRs with 600+ receiving yards and 60+ receptions. 

He remained in the position with the Packers till 2017 and went to Mississippi State in 2018 to fit in the position of OC and WR coach.

Getsy came back to the Packers for his second stint in 2019 and joined to guide quarterbacks and stayed in the role until the 2021 season. 

The instructor has 16 years of mentoring experience 8th of which comes from the NFL and the remaining from college football. 

Chicago Bears Defensive Coordinator

Alan Williams is the current defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears who was appointed in the 2022 offseason. He holds 31 years of coaching experience. 

The defense mentor is serving his second season with the Bears at present. The tutor himself was a college football running back from 1988 to 1991. 

The Norfolk native began his mentoring career at the collegiate level at William & Mary where he had played his college football. From 1996 to 1997 he trained the running backs and defensive backs from 1998 to 2000. He served for five seasons there. 

He was also the assistant head coach at Norview (Va.) High School. Williams’ NFL debut in the coaching career began with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He commenced his duty as the defensive assistant in 2001. There he assisted the team to finish a 9-7 record in the Wild Card Berth. 

Alan associated with the Colts from 2002 to 2011 and helped them to get nine playoff berths consecutively from 2002 to 2010. He served in the position of defensive coordinator from 2012 to 2013 and helped them to finish seventh in the sacks and ninth in the tackle for loss. 

He started his 2014 season mentoring the defensive backs/safeties of the Detroit Lions. Glover Quin marked his most productive season under Williams that year. Williams remained with the team until 2017. 

The William & Mary graduate associated with the Indianapolis Colts for the next four seasons guiding the team’s defense to finish 10th in the points allowed, top 10 in interceptions, sixth in the NFL pass defense, top 10 in scoring defense, and top 10 in NFL run defense until 2021.

Chicago Bears general manager

Ryan Poles is the General Manager of the Bears who was appointed in the role on 25 January 2022 as the 7th GM in the history of the franchise. 

He started as a recruiting assistant at Boston College (where he also played his college football in defensive tackle position for five seasons) from 2008 to 2009. 

Poles was associated with the Chiefs for 13 seasons in a wide variety until 2021. He got embedded in many roles, like the team’s Player Personnel Assistant in 2009, College Scouting Administrator from 2010 to 2012, and the Director of College Scouting in 2016

In his final season with the Kansas City Chiefs, Ryan became the club’s Executive Director of Player Personnel in 2021. Poles is currently in his second season in the role of GM for the Bears as well as in his career.
